A clogged filter makes the system work harder to push air through, using more energy. How often Should I Change the Air Filter
How often you change the air filters depends on a number of factors. Typically every 3 months is the standard, however the following factors decrease the months between changing filters to 1 or 2 months.
- Constantly Run Systems – If you tend to run your system constantly, you may want to consider a monthly swap out. Especially in the heat of a Georgia Summer!
- Do you have pets or allergies? Manufacturers would suggest changing the air filters more frequently than every 3 months
Where Is My Filter Located?
Typically, your air filter is located in 1 of 2 spots:
- On the blower compartment of your furnace or air conditioner.
- Behind a ceiling or wall mounted return air grill
Check/measure your filter to make sure you select the right size for your system.
How To Replace My Filter
- First – turn off your air conditioner or heater using your thermostat.
- Locate the filter, remove and make note of which direction the arrows are pointing in the current filter.
- Insert the new filter, matching up the arrow direction with the one you removed. **Arrows should point in the direction the air is flowing.
**Follow any directions on your user manuals for the furnace and air conditioner if you’re not sure.
